God has grown St Mark’s substantially over recent years, both in number and in faith. Every year new people are becoming Christians and joining us. This has meant a lot of gradual change over time, and yet people still tell us it is a very caring welcoming place.
We have members of all ages (with about 300 who call us their church home).
The vision of the Anglican Church of Tasmania is to see the transforming life of Jesus change this whole island. At St Mark’s we want to be prayerful activists, enlivened by biblical faith and the power of the Holy Spirit. We want to to take initiatives in mission so that God may transform the life of our Christian communities and all Tasmanians.
All our congregations at St Mark’s are warm and welcoming. Feel free to visit us at any of the following services:
8:30am Sunday – This is a traditional prayer book service, with hymns and holy communion every week.
10am Sunday – This is our largest service, and includes a children’s program up to grade 6.
6pm Sunday – This is both our most relaxed and energetic service! We church rearranged with couches and bean bags and tables. We have the full age range here, including most of our youth and young adults. Most people arrive from 5:50 to share supper before and after the service!
10am Friday – This is a prayer book and holy communion service for those who find it easier to get out during the week.
What to expect when you visit
You can find us on Clarence St, opposite the Bellerive Salamanca Fresh store. We have ample parking onsite, and there is plenty of space in the streets around the church.
You will be greeted at the door and directed into the church. Take a seat anywhere you like!
If you have young children there is a room that looks into the church with toys and books. At the Sunday 10am service there is a kids program for creche to primary aged children.
Most services include songs, notices, Bible reading, a sermon and prayer – all led from the front.
Morning tea or supper after the service is where you can meet and chat with other people.
The best way to get to know others at St Mark’s is to join one of our connection groups. These meet weekly in homes and cafes across Hobart in order to connect with one another and with God. Contact us to find a group that would suit you.
